Cost? Let’s
break it down Phase by Phase
It has been estimated that the entire building project is going to
cost approximately $120,000 - $160,000, with Phase
1 being estimated about $65,000. This price has been determined
through a bidding process, not to mention considerations given for
inflation and a weak U.S. economy and Dollar. The value of
the U.S. Dollar compared to the Zambian Kwacha plays a considerable
role in how much we will be able to accomplish with each dollar.
At
this time the U.S. based committee has raised approximately 95% of
what is needed to complete Phase 1.

Phase 1 - Completion
of Phase I (current project)
Completion includes finishing the
lab and purchasing required lab equipment for 35-40 students as required
by the Minister of Education to become an exam testing center. With
a completed lab and extended certification, JOC can generate income by
offering testing for 9th and 12th grade exams and significantly reduce
the exams costs for JOC pupils. Some students in the area have
to travel 2-3 hours to take the science test. We also need to install
sidewalks and furnish more desks with chairs and curriculum for anticipated
higher new enrollment beginning January 2011. Estimated cost $6000.
Phase 2 - Purchase Adjoining
Property
The
government has informed us that the Junior High and Senior High students
need to be separated on the campus. At the present time
we do not have enough land for new buildings. We are currently
teaching 3 grades in the morning and 2 in the afternoon. There
is a piece of property that is available next to the current buildings
at an approximate cost of $15,000. Land is becoming more valuable
and scarce in Kalingalinga. If we can buy the land, we can rent
out the rooms (not appropriate for classrooms) until we have enough
money to start building the next phase. Our goal is to purchase this
property as soon as possible as land prices are rising every year in
Kalingalinga.
Phase 3 - New building on campus
Our long term goal is to build 2 more classrooms, a computer library
space and a home economics classroom. We hope to raise
the money to build the next buildings within 3 years. JOC is
changing lives of young people and with the expansion resources will
be available to teach students personal and professional skills to
change the community of Kalingalinga. Projected cost: $50,000.
Phase 4 - Classrooms
Computer
lab/library and a home economics classroom. Projected cost: $30,000.
